和魂洋才(Wakon Yosai)是日本明治維新時期興起的思想,鼓勵日本國民學習西方思維,同時要求國民保留傳統文化。作家李敖曾點評分析,和魂洋才把西方近代文化看成一種百貨公司,可以任由日本人挑「好」的、不要「壞」的,然後加上日本自己的「好」的,創造出一種日本新文化。用現代流行用語,或許也可以稱作「文化自助餐」。
因爲這樣的風氣,造就了日本不論文化或學術上確實都與其他國家有明顯的不同。例如明治 5 年(1872 年)開始,日本建構了現代化軍隊、甚至聘請德國教官,卻仍保留傳統的武士刀作為士兵裝備;國民開始以西洋髮妝打扮,但依舊穿著日本傳統服飾。這樣的堅持,直到現在的日本時裝領域都還能明顯見到,這也是為什麼日本有不少以古典工藝為賣點的服裝品牌,甚至連 NIGO 操刀的 LV² 也能看到「洋風和魂」的景象。
